Project Management
($1000 per month)

This is one of the biggest pieces of the publishing puzzle. I’ll be there for you through the entirety of your journey, or however long you feel that you need my help.

I’ll be answering your questions, solving problems, managing the timeline, setting expectations and preparing you for upcoming steps, and of course, facilitating work and collaborating with the other creatives you’ll be working with.

Creative Matchmaking
(included in Project Management cost)

The adage of “you get what you pay for” is one of life’s enduring truths. While sites like Upwork seem convenient and may even be the right fit for some authors, if you don’t know what to look for, you may not find someone you can trust to do excellent work, especially with the niche expertise of books.

I have direct connections to dozens of stellar, experienced writers, editors, and designers who have worked with major publishers. We’ll work together to determine who’s best for your needs. This takes the guesswork out of finding the right fit and gives you peace of mind knowing you’re in good hands.

Editing
($0.02$0.05 per word)

After spending 4 years editing in the academic world, I’ve got the mechanics of copyediting and proofreading down to a science. I’m also capable of developmental editing work (such as line editing), and depending on your needs, I’ll determine how I can help you edit your manuscript or find another editor if that’s best for you.

The industry norm is to charge per word for editing, and my rates are aligned with EFA standards. The total cost depends on if you need developmental editing, line editing, copyediting, and/or proofreading.

Publishing
(custom quote)

Self-publishing is not difficult, but it can be complicated and overwhelming. If you’ve got your book done (or almost done) and just need to get it published, I can save you time and headache by helping you plan and navigate all the steps needed to get your book online. Once you publish, your book will be available on Amazon and also distributed to other online retailers through IngramSpark.

The exact costs of publishing depend on which formats of your book you plan to publish (i.e., ebook, paperback, hardcover, audiobook), which distribution channels you use, and your specific needs during and after launch. $1500 to $2000 is a good range to expect.

Offset (Bulk) Printing
(custom quote)

If you have a need for a large quantity of books (1,000 or more), printing them through Amazon or IngramSpark likely won’t be the best option for you. Offset printing can get you higher-quality books at a lower cost, which you can use for speaking engagements, direct sales, workshops and events, and much more.

I’ll work with you to plan your print run and oversee all the steps needed to get books in your hands. Doing this on your own is overwhelming, so I do not recommend you try it—but if you do want to handle it on your own, I can at least give you some recommendations of printers to work with.

What’s the Total Cost to Publish My Book?

I’ll assess your needs and budget to come up with more accurate costs, but these are good benchmarks to be prepared for:

If you plan to work with a ghostwriter: at least $25,000

If you’ve already written your manuscript: at least $10,000

The manuscript writing is one of the biggest determinants of cost and timeline. Ghostwriting in particular can vary widely—from five to six figures.
